The Calgary Food Bank has opened a new downtown distribution center aimed at improving access to food support for residents in need. The facility is located in the Neoma building at 706 7th Ave. S.W., directly along the CTrain line, making it easier for clients to reach.

Calgary Food Bank president and CEO Melissa From said the new site aligns with the organization’s strategic plan to remove barriers and deliver food where it is most needed.

The downtown location will provide up to 200 additional emergency food hampers daily, supplementing the 800 hampers distributed at the organization’s main site.

Mayor Jeromy Farkas praised the initiative, saying the city is proud to support organizations that ensure no Calgarian goes hungry. He also highlighted the client-choice model, which allows individuals and families to select foods that best meet their needs.

The new center allows clients to pre-book appointments and shop for preferred items. Founded in 1982, the Calgary Food Bank has expanded into a large-scale charitable food distribution organization and, in 2024, launched a five-year strategy focused on making food accessible to all Calgarians.
