Residents and workers in a northeast Calgary neighbourhood are voicing concerns about a heavily damaged road that serves as the only access point into a local industrial area.
Beaver Dam Road N.E., located in Skyline West just north of McKnight Boulevard and west of Deerfoot Trail, has become the sole route in and out after the main access, Goddard Avenue N.E., was closed for construction. The gravel road is full of deep potholes, forcing drivers to drastically reduce their speed to avoid damage.
Locals say the road has been in rough shape for years and are urging the city to step in with immediate repairs. They’re asking for a grader to be brought in to smooth out the surface while the detour remains in use.
The City of Calgary has closed Goddard Avenue to complete bridge rehabilitation and flood prevention work. That project is scheduled to wrap up by August 7.
Until then, residents are hoping for temporary relief from the rough conditions that are making daily commutes difficult and potentially damaging vehicles.
