A troublesome property in northeast Calgary has been shut down by Alberta Sheriffs following years of ongoing concerns from local residents.
The Safer Communities and Neighbourhoods (SCAN) unit obtained a court order to close the property at 5128 Maryvale Drive NE, citing ongoing criminal activity.
Between March 2023 and March 2025, Calgary police responded to 45 calls for service at the address. Despite a formal warning issued by SCAN in November 2024, community complaints continued, pointing to suspected drug use and criminal behavior.
Authorities observed evidence of illegal drug trafficking and abuse at the home, which was reportedly linked to various crimes including violence and property offences.
Calgary Police Service Acting Inspector Lee Dunbar said the activity at the residence significantly impacted the neighborhood’s safety and well-being.
“This property was a source of repeated criminal activity that undermined the community’s sense of security. Its closure marks a vital step in restoring safety for nearby residents,” said Dunbar.
He also expressed appreciation for the community’s cooperation and the collaboration with Alberta Sheriffs.
Starting Monday, the property will be shut down for 90 days, with the closure order lasting until January 14, 2026. Everyone, including the owner, must vacate the home. The house has been boarded up, fenced off, and all locks have been changed.
SCAN officers will continue to keep an eye on the property during the ongoing investigation.
