One dead after semi-truck collision in southeast Calgary

One person is dead following a collision between a semi-truck and a pickup in southeast Calgary Wednesday night.

The crash happened around 8:40 p.m. at the intersection of Barlow Trail and 26th Street S.E. Police say the smaller vehicle became partially wedged underneath the semi-trailer in the northbound lanes.

At the scene, officers initially reported one person had suffered serious injuries. Alberta Health Services later said paramedics found the individual in critical, life-threatening condition. The person was not transported to hospital, and police later confirmed the victim had died at the scene.

No details about the victim have been released.

Investigators are still working to determine what led up to the crash. The Calgary Police Service traffic unit has taken over the investigation.

As a result of the collision, Barlow Trail was closed between 50th and 54th avenues S.E. for several hours while crews worked at the scene.
