IndiGo cancelled more than 1,000 flights on Friday, December 5, 2025, and plans to cut hundreds more on Saturday, December 6, throwing air travel across India into chaos and driving up ticket prices.

In response, the government has temporarily exempted the country’s largest airline from complying with new regulations until February 10.

To stabilize operations and prevent further delays, IndiGo halted all departures from Delhi for the entire day.

It also cancelled all domestic flights from Chennai and suspended all Bengaluru–Delhi and Bengaluru–Mumbai flights for the day.

As fares on other airlines surged with stranded IndiGo passengers seeking alternatives, SpiceJet stepped in by adding seven additional flights on Friday and another 17 on Saturday to major destinations including Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Kolkata.

To help ease the travel crunch, Northern Railway announced it would increase the number of 3AC and chair-car coaches on four premium trains: the Jammu Rajdhani, Dibrugarh Rajdhani, Chandigarh Shatabdi, and Amritsar Shatabdi.

Meanwhile, Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu met with pilot unions, including the Airline Pilots’ Association India and the Federation of Indian Pilots, urging them to cooperate amid growing unrest over the temporary regulatory relief granted to IndiGo.
