Prime Minister Mark Carney says Canada faced significant challenges in 2025 but remains strongest when Canadians come together.
In his New Year’s Eve message, Carney encouraged Canadians to reflect on the moments of joy from the past year and the people who made those moments meaningful as the country prepares to welcome 2026.
While acknowledging the positives, the prime minister also noted that 2025 brought “more than its share of challenges” for the nation. Despite those difficulties, he said the year served as a reminder of Canada’s strength and character.
Carney described Canadians as part of “one extraordinary, generous and caring nation,” emphasizing that the country’s strength comes from people looking out for one another.
He said he will carry that spirit of unity, compassion, and shared values forward into 2026.
