It was Poilievre’s first news conference since the Liberal government tabled its budget — and since two of his MPs announced their departures last week.
Nova Scotia MP Chris d’Entremont crossed the floor to join the minority Liberal government just hours after the budget’s release on Tuesday, while Alberta MP Matt Jeneroux said Thursday he plans to resign his seat.
D’Entremont cited Poilievre’s leadership approach as one reason for his decision to leave the Conservative caucus after six years, and told CBC he knew of other MPs who had considered doing the same.
Poilievre dismissed those concerns, saying he intends to remain focused on being “the only leader in the country that’s fighting for an affordable Canada.”
