Large swaths of the Prairies — along with other parts of Canada — may be digging out once again ahead of the weekend as a powerful winter system continues to batter the country.
Environment and Climate Change Canada says another Alberta Clipper is expected to bring up to 15 centimetres of snow to southern Saskatchewan and Manitoba, accompanied by strong westerly wind gusts reaching 70 kilometres per hour.
In Alberta, areas southeast of Edmonton are being warned of difficult morning commutes as blowing snow sweeps across the region, significantly reducing visibility.
The Prairies have already endured a harsh stretch of winter weather this week, with storms stranding vehicles, forcing school and highway closures, and triggering widespread power outages.
Winter storm warnings are also in effect for north-central Ontario and parts of Quebec, where forecasters are predicting heavy snowfall totals of between 30 and 50 centimetres.
