Alberta’s police watchdog has charged one active RCMP officer and one former officer with breach of trust following an investigation into alleged misconduct at two northern detachments.

The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) says it was directed in February 2024 to investigate officers from the Morinville and Westlock RCMP detachments, both located north of Edmonton.

ASIRT determined there were reasonable grounds to believe an offence had been committed. However, officials declined to provide further details, citing the matter is now before the courts.

The officers charged are former Sgt. Daniel Mayowski of the Westlock detachment and Sgt. Sheldon Robb of the Morinville detachment.

RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Troy Savinkoff confirmed that Mayowski was suspended without pay at the time of the investigation and has since left the RCMP, while Robb is still a serving officer, currently suspended with pay.

Savinkoff did not disclose the nature of the alleged misconduct but said the RCMP is fully cooperating with the ASIRT investigation.
