Less than 24 hours after Alberta’s new payment portal went live to help parents affected by the ongoing teachers’ strike, officials say scammers have already begun targeting users.

The Better Business Bureau (BBB) is warning parents to be cautious of fake websites designed to look like the official Alberta government portal. These fraudulent sites are part of a common tactic known as “spoofing,” where scammers imitate legitimate websites to steal personal information or money.

The BBB urges families to verify web addresses carefully and only access the payment portal through trusted government links to avoid falling victim to these scams.
