More than 24 hours after conservative activist Charlie Kirk was fatally shot during a speech at Utah Valley University, the suspect remains at large.
Federal investigators are urging the public for assistance, releasing two images of the individual believed responsible for the killing, which they are treating as a politically motivated act of violence.
Authorities have gathered several pieces of evidence, including a palm print, a shoe impression, and a high-powered Mauser .30-caliber bolt-action rifle.
The weapon—discovered wrapped in a towel in a wooded area along the suspect’s escape route—had one spent cartridge in the chamber and three live rounds in the magazine. The firearm and ammunition are currently undergoing forensic analysis at a federal lab.
The suspect, shown in photos wearing a hat, sunglasses, and a long-sleeve black shirt, has not yet been publicly identified. A $100,000 reward has been offered for information leading to an arrest.
Two individuals initially detained shortly after the shooting were later released, prompting law enforcement to pursue new leads and focus on a separate person of interest.
The attack, which occurred in broad daylight, was captured on disturbing videos that circulated widely on social media. The footage shows Kirk speaking with a handheld microphone in a campus courtyard when a single gunshot rings out.
Kirk clutches his neck as blood pours from a wound, while shocked spectators scream and flee the scene.
Kirk, a prominent ally of former President Donald Trump and a leading voice among young conservative voters, was pronounced dead shortly after the shooting. The FBI continues to ask for public assistance in identifying the suspect.
