Southern Alberta is set to experience unusually warm weather on Thursday, with parts of the region also bracing for powerful winds.
According to Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC), a ridge of high pressure is bringing mild temperatures to much of the province. In Calgary, the mercury is expected to climb to 15 C by the afternoon, while communities farther south could see highs between 18 C and 19 C.
However, stronger winds will make it feel cooler than the actual temperature. Calgary is forecast to see southwest winds of 20 to 40 km/h through the afternoon.
In southwestern Alberta, winds could become severe, with gusts reaching up to 100 km/h. ECCC has issued a wind warning for that area, noting the strongest gusts are expected near Waterton National Park. The agency warns that damage to roofs, fences, branches, or soft shelters is possible, though conditions should ease overnight.
Meanwhile, rainfall warnings are in effect for parts of the B.C. coastline, with moisture expected to spread into the B.C. interior and the Rocky Mountains by Thursday afternoon.
