Adam Kai-Ji Lo, the suspect in the April 26 vehicle attack during Vancouver’s Lapu Lapu Day festival, is now facing 31 additional charges of attempted murder. These come on top of the 11 existing charges of second-degree murder.
The new charges were revealed during a hearing in provincial court, where the presiding judge ruled that Lo is mentally fit to stand trial.
The judge’s reasons for the fitness ruling remain under a publication ban, which also prohibits the release of evidence presented at the hearing, including the assessments given by two forensic psychiatrists.
However, the outcome of the hearing is not covered by the ban and can be reported.
A media consortium, including The Canadian Press, is currently challenging the publication restrictions. Judge Reginald P. Harris stated that a decision on that application has been delayed.
Lo appeared at the hearing via video link, dressed in a dark blue sweat suit.
