Deborah Yedlin, president and CEO of the Calgary Chamber of Commerce, says the federal Budget 2025 provides measures that could benefit businesses in Calgary and across Canada. Speaking on RedFM’s Good Morning Calgary, Yedlin highlighted the budget’s focus on innovation, productivity, and investment incentives.

“This budget encompasses many of the priorities the Chamber has consistently advocated for,” she said. “From energy to manufacturing to technology, it aims to boost economic growth and make Canada more competitive.”

Yedlin noted that the finance minister’s recent Calgary visit emphasized incentives for private investment, including the super productivity deduction and lower marginal effective tax rates, which she said could attract capital to key sectors.

Despite these initiatives, Yedlin acknowledged challenges for local businesses, including supply chain disruptions, tariffs, labor shortages, and rising costs.

She stressed the importance of coordinated support from municipal, provincial, and federal governments to address these pressures and help businesses remain competitive.

The Calgary Chamber CEO also welcomed budget measures aimed at small and medium-sized enterprises, including a procurement program designed to provide access to federal contracts. She highlighted opportunities for companies to invest in machinery and equipment to improve productivity and profitability.

On diversification, Yedlin said Calgary remains rooted in energy, but emerging sectors such as fintech, clean tech, life sciences, and quantum technologies are seeing growth, and federal investments could support further innovation.

Yedlin said business-friendly policies, workforce development, infrastructure investment, and market diversification are key priorities for Calgary’s newly elected city council and the provincial government to maintain a thriving local economy.
