Three youths have been arrested in connection with the assault of a Calgary Transit bus driver in northeast Calgary last week.

According to police, the incident occurred in the early morning hours of August 15. A female bus driver reported that as three children exited the bus at the Rundle CTrain station, they struck the side of the bus and one of them pointed a gun at her.

Officers quickly located the suspects as they were boarding a train at the same station. All three were taken into custody. During the arrest, police seized two replica firearms and a knife.

A 13-year-old girl is now facing multiple charges, including assault, committing an offense with a weapon, possession of a weapon in public, and concealing a weapon.

The two other youths involved, both aged 11, were also arrested but cannot be criminally charged under the Criminal Code of Canada, as they are under the age of 12. They were released to their parents.

Due to the Youth Criminal Justice Act, none of the suspects can be publicly identified.

This incident follows a similar case last month, where an 11-year-old was part of a group involved in a liquor store robbery and an armed robbery targeting a bus driver in Calgary.

While police report that overall youth-related crime in Calgary has dropped by 9 per cent compared to last year, it remains 6 per cent above the five-year average. Notably, violent youth crime has risen by 17 per cent over that same five-year period.
