Walmart is recalling around 850,000 stainless steel water bottles due to a safety hazard involving the lid, which can unexpectedly and forcefully pop off, hitting users. This malfunction has resulted in serious injuries, including permanent vision loss for two individuals.
The recall involves the “Ozark Trail 64 oz Stainless Steel Insulated Water Bottles,” sold nationwide since 2017. According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), the bottles pose significant risks of impact and cuts. The problem occurs when food, carbonated drinks, or perishable liquids like juice or milk are left inside for some time, causing pressure to build up. When the bottle is opened, the lid can shoot off forcefully.
So far, Walmart has received three injury reports related to this issue, including two cases of permanent eye damage.
Consumers are advised to immediately stop using these bottles and either return them to Walmart for a full refund or contact the company for assistance. The affected bottles can be identified by model number 83-662 (found on the packaging), a silver stainless-steel base, a black screw-on lid, and the Ozark Trail logo on the side.
