Several intense low-pressure systems moving through the interior of British Columbia and across southern Alberta have prompted a range of weather warnings from Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC).
As of 8:30 a.m. Thursday, yellow-level snowfall warnings remained in effect for central and eastern Alberta, as well as central and southern Saskatchewan. Warnings were also issued for areas west of Calgary in the foothills and parts of British Columbia along Highway 1 near Rogers Pass.
According to ECCC, total snowfall amounts of 10 to 20 centimetres are expected before the snow comes to an end.
Officials warned that travel conditions could be challenging as snow continues to accumulate. Roads and walkways may become difficult to navigate, and visibility could be reduced at times due to the ongoing snowfall.
Authorities are advising drivers and residents to exercise caution, allow extra travel time and stay updated on weather conditions before heading out.
