The federal government is urging continued caution in Western Canada and along the East Coast as wildfire risks remain high for the rest of the summer.
According to the latest forecast, large areas of British Columbia and the Prairie provinces are expected to experience hotter and drier-than-normal conditions in the coming months.
Federal meteorologists also predict above-average temperatures for most regions across Canada through the remainder of the season.
Public Safety Canada shared new data during a technical briefing, revealing that approximately 78,000 square kilometers of land have already burned in 2025 — mainly in Saskatchewan and Manitoba.
This marks the second-highest total on record, trailing only behind the historic fire season of 2023, and is more than double the decade-long average.
Currently, there are 707 active wildfires burning nationwide, with 68 classified as out of control.
