More than 27,000 federal public servants earned at least $150,000 in the last fiscal year, according to a newly tabled document in Parliament.
The report, prepared by the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat, shows that over 20,000 federal employees received total compensation, including salary, bonuses, benefits, and overtime ranging from $150,000 to $199,999 in 2024–25.
Nearly 5,000 public servants were paid between $200,000 and $249,999, while close to 1,400 earned between $250,000 and $299,999.
The federal budget released earlier this year included plans to trim program spending and administrative costs by roughly $60 billion over the next five years.
That strategy calls for reducing the size of the public service by 10 percent by 2029, a cut of about 40,000 jobs from its peak workforce of 368,000 two years ago, as well as eliminating 1,000 executive positions within the next two years.
The compensation breakdown also shows that 654 federal employees earned between $300,000 and $399,999 last year. Another 42 received between $400,000 and $499,999, and six employees were paid $500,000 or more.
