Police have issued a warning to a prominent Canadian Sikh leader about a credible threat to his life as Prime Minister Mark Carney prepares to travel to India for trade discussions this week.
Moninder Singh, president of the Sikh Federation of Canada, revealed that a Vancouver Police Department officer delivered the warning to him on Sunday. The officer explained that the information came from a confidential source and indicated that Singh’s wife and children could also be at risk.
Singh, who resides in Surrey, B.C., provided Global News with an audio recording of the police visit and a photo of the officer’s business card.
A police spokesperson confirmed, “From time to time, the VPD conducts what is called a ‘Duty to Warn’ when we receive information regarding a threat to someone.”
